My Karma

Karma pertains mostly to attitudes and consciousness. The Cayce readings did not indicate adverse karmic effects for policemen or soldiers who are compelled to maintain safety or under orders, and had to execute people or employ violent methods. The readings however indicated severe karmic penalties for jeering mobs during the Roman persecution of Christians and in a particular, a spectator who laughed when a lion ripped out the side of a Christian girl. Neither the spectator nor the mob did any actual physical harm. It is My Karma One of the most distorted views of karma is the idea of destiny. No matter how terrible the predicament, there is always something that can be done, even if it is a patient smile or maintaining a good attitude. Within adverse conditions often lies the opportunity.

Physician Karma

Aesculapius was the god of medicine and healing in ancient Greek religion. Aesculapius represents the healing aspect of the medical arts. Aesculapius was a kindly, bearded man holding a serpent-entwined staff. Statues of the god are quite common. The rod of Aesculapius, a snake-entwined staff, remains a symbol of medicine today. Homer called Aesculapius the blameless physician. According to legend, he was a son of Apollo and Cronis. His mother was beloved and impregnated by Apollo. However, she fell in love with another man and wanted to marry him. To save Apollo from complete humiliation, his sister Artemis killed Cronis by burning her at the stake. Before her execution, Apollo removed his unborn son from his mother's womb and named him Aesculapius. Apollo gave him the ability to treat people and Aesculapius later became a great physician. His healing power was so strong that he started to raise people from the dead. Unhappy about losing the privilege of immortality, Zeus killed Aesculapius with a thunderbolt. Historians speculate that a real Greek physician is the source of this legend. They point to the description of actual medical cases treated by Aesculapius who used different natural therapeutic modalities. These stories later became the part of his legendary life. In one such case, the patient had a deformation of the hand similar to the disorder which we now know as Dupuytren's contracture. According to the legend, Aesculapius restored the functions of hand by stroking the deformed area.
